Cocktail: Dirty Martini

Today while watching reruns of one of my all-time favorite television programs, I felt strongly compelled to have a martini. And my favorite is a real classic - dirty, gin, shaken. A girl can't help but feel classy while sipping one of these.

 Here's my recipe:

 1.5 Ounces Gin
A drop (really) of Dry Vermouth
 Olives and juice

Combine gin and vermouth in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake. Pour into a martini glass and add olives and olive juice to your taste.

Simple. Classic. And it gets the job done.

Sweaty Betty

Good afternoon, friends! Mr. Betty and I just returned from a quick trip to New Orleans. It was HOT, y'all. Although it's not very ladylike, there is something special about sweating. I feel like I've been cleansed of all my toxins... Though I may have added a few toxins while sitting in smoky bars. A good friend of mine has a motto - "You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning." New Orleans is the place to live that motto! We had Long Island Iced Teas well before noon! Crazy! But being the responsible adults we are, we did not live the motto to an excess. No embarrassing falls, unfortunate purchases or regrettable internet posts. Maturity - meh. We ate some very nice, super fancy meals. We won't be craving any fancy French cuisine for a while. Somehow we completely missed out on drinking hurricanes and eating red beans and rice, gumbo and barbecue shrimp. Not one beignet was consumed! I don't know what we were thinking! We must go back! I think we may need to make Nawlins in August an annual trip. We will surely need some another round of cleansing by next August, right?

Speaking of Cocktails...

It's Friday afternoon - my favorite time for a cocktail. And really, is there a better time for one? No, friends, there is not. Today I'm enjoying a Vodka Gimlet. It's simple, classic, and very Betty.
The recipe is:
2 1/2 ounces vodka
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
Combine in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a martini glass. Or enjoy on the rocks in an old-fashioned glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Betty thinks this cocktail is perfect drink to assist in closing the books on another work week.

Cheers!

Hello, my name is Betty. It's a pleasure to meet you.

I'm blending the 1960's housewife with the modern working mother. I wear dresses with heels and pearls. I am a working professional. I'm smart, independent and I love pretty things. I can cook, make classy cocktails, and run an office. I want my daughters to know that they, too, can do it all. Watch out, world - Modern Betty knows what she wants and she's in control.
